It’s a new year and a new start for businesses everywhere. Especially after the year we’ve all just had, many businesses will now be refining their strategy and taking lessons from 2020. What you will have done to grow your business in any normal year may no longer be possible.
In-person events are scarcely possible, and many companies now have a much smaller budget after a knock to their sales. Therefore, priorities must be shifted towards the new audience behaviours we already saw in 2020.
From video to your team, find out the 5 things you must focus on this year to grow your business.
1. Invest in video
This is #1 on our list for a very good reason. We know first-hand that video is the biggest and best change you can make to grow your business. It’s simply what people want to see, whether it’s a short social media edit or a full-blown company film. People’s social media feeds are now brimming with videos from individuals and businesses – including your competitors. So, you need to make sure you’re providing them with some quality, stand-out video content.
There are many types of video you can create for your business – product demonstrations, company overviews, behind-the-scenes videos and much, much more.
Video will immediately boost your brand’s influence on whatever channel you distribute it on – social media, your website, even TV. It’s very effective at increasing your reach and engagement, which in turn boosts your traffic and sales. What’s not to love?!
Don’t just take our word for it, though. We could write a whole book on the power of video, but to get you started, have a read of these blog posts:
2. Maximise your online content
The biggest change we saw in 2020 was the move to online. Unable to visit shops, restaurants or their friends, everyone began doing far more via the internet than ever before. Undoubtedly, if they’re not already, your marketing efforts should be almost entirely focused online.
It’s not just a couple of videos you need to think about – maximising ALL your content is essential to grow your business. This means doing as much as you can with the ‘macro’ content you create: videos, blog posts, ebooks and more. Turn these into smaller videos, graphics, GIFs, screengrabs – anything you can think of! The more variety you create in your content, and the more content you have to share, the longer you’ll stay in your audience’s minds.
That content needs to be used across as many platforms as you can – your website, social media, virtual events and so on.
This is what we mean by ‘maximising’ your content. One video isn’t just one video – it can be 50 things if you think hard enough. Our CEO, Danny Lacey, explains more in this clip:
3. Invest in your team
Last year, we made some exciting hires that we can now proudly say have contributed to the fast growth of our business. The key is finding the perfect combination of skill, experience and attitude – and these are not distributed how you might think. At Stada Media, we hire on 70% attitude – if you’re really enthusiastic about your role, you’re basically already there. Everything else can be refined later.
Having a strong formation of employees makes the world of difference when you want to grow your business. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses as a team is also very valuable. You should be aware of where you can maximise productivity by hiring in the areas where you may lack.
4. Live stream
Live streaming was already on its way to the top in the marketing world, but 2020 gave it an unexpected boost. Many businesses had to move their events and presentations into the virtual space, turning to live streaming to save them.
Have a watch of our live streaming showreel above for some examples of live streams we’ve produced for clients in the past.
Live streaming will carry you through 2021 smoothly and with renewed influence after 2020. It creates instant engagement, with viewers more inclined to watch the stream before it’s no longer happening ‘now’. For this reason, live streams also enjoy more shares than your average video.
Another huge benefit of live streaming is that it can actually widen your audience further than your average in-person event. There are no limits when you stream online – by the end, you might have some new customers from the other side of the world. This is an example of how live streaming can tangibly grow your business.
What can you do with live streaming? Well, pretty much anything. It’s possible to convert most events into live streams – if you weren’t live streaming them as a bonus already. You can host presentations, webinars, product demos and much more.

5. Be adaptable
As 2020 taught us, you never know what’s around the corner. So, it’s important to be prepared for all eventualities. In this context, the main shift was from in-person working to virtual working. This includes what we’ve just discussed: live streaming.
In 2021, it’s important to stay prepared for this to continue. Furthermore, we never know what we might need to adapt next to continue working effectively. Global pandemic or not, this is a good lesson for businesses in general: don’t rely on one way of working, because you may soon discover you’re falling behind. If you can adapt to anything, you’ll be able to grow your business no matter what situation you find yourself in.
If you keep these tips in mind as you settle into the new year, your business will thrive in 2021 and beyond.
