Digital Deep Dive: Facebook Downvote Button, Snapchat Live Video & More

The online landscape is ever-changing. New devices, platforms and features are introduced on what feels like a daily basis. We’ve put together a roundup of this week’s biggest stories to help you stay ahead of the curve!

Facebook confirms test of a downvote button for flagging comments

Facebook is now testing a downvote button on a limited set of public Page post comment reels that will allow users to provide a signal to Facebook that a comment is inappropriate, uncivil, or misleading.

In a statement, Facebook said: “We are not testing a dislike button. We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts.”

Instagram tests resharing of others’ posts to your Story

Instagram has confirmed that it’s testing an option that will enable users to share other users posts to their Stories. The feature is currently only testing with a small percentage of users, but it is likely to get a wider roll out in the near future.

Snapchat finally adds live video

Snapchat is finally adding Live video to its platform. However, unlike Facebook and Instagram, it has no intention of extending broadcasting features to the average user. Instead, select publishers will be able to transmit live content to the app, starting with NBC’s Live Olympics coverage.

Snapchat adds features including fonts and do not disturb amidst redesign

Snapchat is taking note of Facebook’s “Time Well Spent” movement by adding a “Do Not Disturb” feature to its app. This will allow users to mute specific people without formally blocking them.

Over the coming weeks, Snapchat will also be rolling out further changes to its redesign — including colourful text styles and multiple captions.
