The online landscape is ever-changing. Companies introduce new devices, platforms and features on what feels like a daily basis. So, we’ve rounded up this week’s biggest stories, including Facebook Live Video Producer. Stay ahead of the curve!
Facebook Live Video Producer tool in testing stage
Facebook is testing a new web-based ‘Live Video Producer’ tool. It will give video producers more flexibility with their live broadcasts.
Facebook Live Video Producer will reportedly include custom graphic overlays and the ability to control footage from multiple cameras in one stream. Watch this space.
WhatsApp Delete for Everyone feature
WhatsApp has released a new feature that allows users to “unsend” any messages sent by mistake. To delete a message, you simply tap and hold on the message and choose “Delete for everyone”.
However, it’s important to note that WhatsApp Delete For Everyone only gives you seven minutes to delete the message. Plus, of course, there’s a chance the recipient may see your message before you try to revoke it!
In a blog post, WhatsApp explained that it would be available on “the latest versions of iPhone, Android, Windows Phone as well as desktop”.
However, importantly, both you and the message recipient must be using the latest version of WhatsApp. Otherwise, the message may not successfully delete.
Very different to the Facebook Live Video Producer development, but nevertheless another move towards greater user opportunities.
New emojis on Apple iOS 11.1
This week, Apple released its first feature update for iOS 11. Firstly, the update includes a few bug fixes, security updates and 3D touch gestures. However, it also offers around 70 new emojis.
You’ll find new mythical creatures, activities, clothing, animals and facial expressions. And, as always, many emoji characters come in many variations with multiple genders and skin colours.
Hopefully people will be sending these new emojis on your live videos you make using the Facebook Live Video Producer tool!
Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status hit 300M users
New figures show that Snapchat’s two biggest rivals are showing no signs of slowing down.
According to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Instagram Stories and WhatsApp Status now have 300 million daily active users each. This is twice the size of Snapchat’s audience, which currently stands at around 173 million daily active users.
Along with Facebook Live Video Producer, this shows how visual video content is dominating social media today.
LinkedIn introduces Smart Replies
Like WhatsApp Delete For Everyone, Linkedin is also expanding its messaging capabilities.
LinkedIn has unveiled a new Smart Replies feature in its messaging app. The feature gives users various quick-reply prompts to keep conversations flowing.
The company has implemented a number of AI tools. For example, this includes machine learning and sophisticated natural language processing. These enable the app to understand conversations and keep them going in a more natural way.
