Digital Deep Dive: IGTV, Messenger Kids & More!

The online landscape is ever-changing. New devices, platforms and features are introduced on what feels like a daily basis. We’ve put together a roundup of this week’s biggest stories, including Messenger Kids and IGTV. Stay ahead of the curve!

Messenger Kids expands outside the U.S. and rolls out ‘Kindness’ features

Facebook’s child-friendly messenger app is now becoming available beyond the U.S borders, launching in Canada and Peru. New features include a ‘Messenger Kids Pledge’ and ‘Kindness Stickers’. The pledge is something for children to read with their parents, which outlines how best to behave online, how to treat others and so on. Furthermore, stickers allow users to award their friends with awards such as ‘Well Done’, ‘Great Helper’ and ‘Best Artist’.

Instagram launches IGTV app for creators, 1-hour video uploads

This has already been a huge hit among users! Competing with the likes of YouTube, the app has introduced Instagram TV. Excitingly, this is a huge development because people were only previously able to upload video up to 1-minute long. IGTV lets anyone be a creator and upload vertical videos through the app or the web.

Facebook launches brand collabs search engine for sponsoring creators

Facebook have been working on ways it can connect users and brands for sponsorships and placement deals. Creators will be able to compile a Facebook portfolio to show brands just how they work with sponsored products.

Facebook prototypes tool to show how many minutes you spend on it

Managing the time spent on our phones is a hot topic right now. We saw in last week’s Digital Deep Dive that Instagram were introducing changes to allow us to be a little more mindful of our scrolling, and Facebook has followed suit.

Specifically, app is working to show users how much time they spend on average per day based on the last 7 days of use.

In light of the Messenger Kids launch, it’s more important than ever to keep an eye on young people’s internet usage.
