The online landscape is ever-changing. Companies introduce new devices, platforms and features on what feels like a daily basis. So, we’ve put together a roundup of this week’s biggest stories, including how to do live video on Snapchat. Stay ahead of the curve!
Snapchat finally adds live video
Snapchat is finally adding Live video to its platform, like Facebook and Instagram. However, unlike them, it doesn’t intend to extend broadcasting abilities to the average user. Instead, select publishers will be able to transmit live content to the app. For example, this will start with NBC’s Live Olympics coverage.
Nevertheless, knowing how to do live video on Snapchat is something we expect them to afford us in the near future!
Facebook confirms test of a downvote button for flagging comments
Facebook is now testing a downvote button on a limited set of public Page post comment reels. The Facebook downvote button will allow users to signal to Facebook that a comment is inappropriate, uncivil, or misleading.
In a statement, Facebook said: “We are not testing a dislike button. We are exploring a feature for people to give us feedback about comments on public page posts.”
Not quite as exciting as knowing how to do live video on Snapchat, but an important development nonetheless!
Instagram tests resharing of others’ posts to your Story
Instagram has confirmed that it’s testing an option for users to share other users’ posts to their Stories. Importantly, the feature is currently only testing with a small percentage of users. However, it is likely to get a wider roll out in the near future.
Like live video on Snapchat, this signals the expansion of Story formats’ possibilities for users.

Snapchat adds features including fonts and do not disturb amidst redesign
Snapchat is taking note of Facebook’s “Time Well Spent” movement by incorporating a “Do Not Disturb” feature. Specifically, this will allow users to mute specific people without formally blocking them. This new feature is similar to the Facebook downvote button in the way it gives users more power over unwanted content.
Over the coming weeks, Snapchat will also be rolling out further changes to its redesign. These include colourful text styles and multiple captions.
So, what’s your favourite development of the week? The Facebook downvote button, Snapchat’s new additions and how to do live video on Snapchat, or Instagram Story resharing?
