Instagram adds “request” feature to live stream

Thanks to Instagram’s latest live video feature, users can now request to join a live stream and, if accepted, can begin broadcasting live as the host’s guest. To do this, viewers simply need to click a request button in the comments section. Hosts see all requests in real time and can either accept or deny.

Facebook tests live video Fan Club app

Facebook is currently testing a new app for its live video platform called “Fan Club”. The app, which is yet to be released to the entire user base, appears to be designed to help live broadcasters boost engagement with their audiences. Watch this space!

Twitter tests new Bookmarks feature

Last month, Twitter announced that they would be working on a new “save for later” feature, allowing users to flag any Tweets they wish to refer back to in the future. The feature has now been given a name — Bookmarks — and is reportedly in the testing phase. It is currently unclear if/when it will be officially released, but this heavily requested feature is likely to be a hit amongst users.

Facebook launches collaborative Stories for Groups and Events

In a bid to boost usage, Facebook has added all new features to its Snapchat clone. Users of Facebook Groups and Events will now be able to contribute to a collaborative Facebook Story. Posts will be visible to all other members of the Group or Event and will be moderated by admins. Think: parties, weddings, meetups, conferences and more!

Pinterest introduces next wave of visual search and shopping

Pinterest has expanded their visual search tools with five brand new features, with the aim of boosting visual discovery and e-commerce. These include QR-code-esque Pincodes for brands and publishers, a fashion-focused Lens Your Look, zoom-enabled Visual Search, a Firefox Visual Search extension, and 5 million new shoppable pins via an expanded partnership with ShopStyle.
