Digital Deep Dive: Snapchat Lens Studio, Facebook Subscriptions & More!

The online landscape is ever-changing. Companies introduce new devices, platforms and features on what feels like a daily basis. That’s why we’ve put together a roundup of this week’s biggest stories, including Snapchat Lens Studio and Facebook Subscriptions. Stay ahead of the curve!

Snap launches new features for Lens Studio

In addition to Snapchat’s Shoppable AR, they’ve also been busy creating new features for Snapchat Lens Studio. This includes seven new templates for the creation of face lenses. The new templates give developers the opportunity to build lenses which can overlay experiences over faces.

Would you pay for an ad-free Facebook with Facebook Subscriptions?

Facebook is considering introducing an optional subscription fee for users, which currently sits around the $11 mark. Specifically, Facebook Subscriptions would let users avoid all advertising filling up their timelines.

Opinions are scattered as to whether Facebook Subscriptions are a good idea or not. However, allowing users to cut out ads is something we’ve already seen before with the likes of Spotify.

A very different update to Snapchat Lens Studio, but nevertheless shows how rapidly social media is changing!

Snapchat now lets advertisers sell products directly through lenses

Snapchat is introducing Shoppable AR, which is an extension of the feature they launched in 2015. This feature allowed advertisers to create branded filters.

Shoppable AR allows brands to add a link to the selfie Lens which leads users directly to websites.

There are no reports of price increases to use this feature. Therefore, we can see advertisers opting for this feature now –  if they were ever in doubt before.

Along with Snapchat Lens Studio, it’s clear the app is putting its all into lenses as a new business strategy.

Podcasting app Anchor can now find you a Cohost

Recently relaunched podcasting app Anchor has rolled out a new feature which makes it easier for people to find a podcast co-host.

Cohosts will connect users with those that have mutual interests and allows users to connect based on the topic they wish to discuss. As a result, this will massively increase interaction and improve the user experience.

Again, fairly different to Facebook Subscriptions. Anchor is using your information for a better experience; meanwhile, Facebook Subscriptions seems to be cutting out personalisation altogether in favour of a paid service.

Which update most intrigues you? Snapchat Lens Studio, Shoppable AR, Facebook Subscriptions or Anchor’s Cohosts?
