Google I/O 2018 – Our Biggest Takeaways

Conference season has been pretty exciting this year, especially as the developer world competes to be the leading brand in artificial intelligence. Almost every revelation at the latest Google Conference involved some integration with AI, and they have even rebranded their research division to Google AI.

Here are our biggest takeaways from Google’s conference:

Google Assistant

Communication with Google Assistant is going to become much more fluid – and yes, you’ve guessed it – more conversational! You’ll only need to address Google once in the conversation, preferably at the start, in order for commands to be picked up. You’ll be able to ask more than one question in the conversation.

Google Photos

Google photos already offer a variety of optimisation options, but it’ll now be taking it one step further and will recommend a series of improvements based on the photo itself. Quick fix suggestions will include rotations, brightness corrections or adding in a touch of colour. This links in with Google’s strategy of becoming a central hub for all of your photos, which helps improve the user experience alongside the increase in data, which will in turn allow Google to improve its technology.

Smart Displays

Still a question mark to some, Google intends to improve Google Assistant by including a visual element via a partnership with YouTube. The upgrade and introduction of smart displays will enhance the user experience, allowing a much regular home use. We’ve all in some way become accustomed to having smart technology in our living rooms – Google intends to add to this experience.

Google Maps

We mentioned this in our latest Digital Deep Dive. Maps will be getting an exciting new feature which allows users to explore their areas, staying up to date with new restaurant launches and recommended events relevant to their interests.
