Video Marketing Roundup: January 2017

The online landscape is ever-changing. New devices, platforms and features are introduced on what feels like a daily basis.

Never fear. We’ve put together a round-up of five of this month’s biggest stories to help you stay ahead of the curve!

Instagram Stories to launch ads

Instagram announced that they will soon be introducing full-screen ads to Stories, the feature they released just five months ago in an effort to compete with the growing popularity of Snapchat.

Instagram and its parent company Facebook are already the most popular social media platforms among social media marketers, accounting for more than 67% of all social media ad spending worldwide. It’s likely that this new feature will be a big hit with marketers, especially given that Instagram Stories now attracts over 150 million users per day!

Bing improves video search

Bing may not be the world’s favourite search engine, but it is often praised for its clearly presented video search – and it seems that Microsoft is making efforts to improve it even further!

They have added a “save video” option – not unlike YouTube’s “watch later” feature – along with more in-depth descriptions and new filters that allow you to really refine your search. Videos also play automatically when you hover over them – a handy feature for some, possibly annoying for others!

Facebook to introduce mid-roll video ads

Facebook announced that they will be integrating mid-roll adverts into videos this year. The ads will be inserted 20-seconds into any video that lasts at least 90-seconds.

This is a great opportunity for publishers and video marketers alike and will certainly help Facebook in their campaign to steal YouTube’s video platform crown!

Snapchat launches universal search tool

Snapchat is now making it easier to find users and content with a new universal search bar. The app’s discovery process has been known to confuse its users in the past, so this is likely to be a welcome addition to the app!

iPhone celebrates its 10 year anniversary

Steve Jobs unveiled the first iPhone a whole decade ago! Little did we know then that the pocket-sized device would change our lives and business to such a degree.

Given that the iPhone 8 will be the 10th-anniversary edition, it is rumoured that it will be the best model yet. Based on early leaks, it is expected to feature an entire design revamp and a host of updated specs. Watch this space!
