The online landscape is ever-changing. Companies introduce new devices, platforms and features on what feels like a daily basis. Never fear – we’ve rounded up this month’s biggest stories, including pre-roll ads and YouTube mobile live stream capabilities. Stay ahead of the curve!
Pre-roll ads come out top
A new study compared the popularity of pre-roll, mid-roll, and out-stream video ads. The result? It revealed that pre-roll ads are by far the most popular among internet users. For instance, viewers find them less intrusive and more memorable than all other video ad formats.
Twitter introduces pre-roll Periscope ads
Twitter has made an announcement. It will begin selling pre-roll ads on Periscope videos within Twitter itself. As a result, they hope this will encourage more exciting and engaging video content.
Snapchat expands advertising options
With Facebook hot on their heels, Snapchat is working hard to keep marketers on their side. Firstly, they recently acquired a new media license. Now, they’ve made it much easier for marketers to purchase full-screen ads by including them in their self-serve advertising options. Like the previous stories on pre-roll ads, video advertising definitely looks like the future.
YouTube opens mobile live streaming to smaller accounts
The ability for mobile devices to live stream on YouTube was previously limited to accounts with 10,000 or more subscribers. However, this month, YouTube expanded this feature to channels with 1,000 subscribers or more. As for pre-roll ads, YouTube already had this feature – and other platforms are quickly following suit!
Facebook tests native split-screen, two-person live streams
Facebook is looking to stay ahead of the live video game by testing a brand new feature: native split-screen, two-person broadcasts. Currently, the only users who can use this are personal profiles on Facebook’s iPhone app. However, it’s likely to be expanded in the near future.
What do you think of this month’s news? Could you take advantage of any of these updates for your business?
