When it’s hard to talk, it’s up to us to listen.

There’s no doubt when you watch this commercial, you will get a chill down your spine. Domestic abuse is a big issue in the world today, but as the subject of Domestic abuse is so serious, some people do not know how to approach it, especially when making an ad about it. There’s no violence involved in the ad, no characters, no scenes. We’re simply presented with a dramatized, real life 911 call from a domestic violence victim. The ad is very minimalistic, a tour of a gloomy house that shows clear signs of altercation including a fist shaped hole in the wall, this is to help focus on the real issue and meaning, and lets you imagine the story yourself.

The simplistic approach to this ad, really does add to the chilling aspect. Source – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rTJT3fVv1vU&feature=youtu.be

“Is this real? Chilled me to the bone.” User Nadia wrote. “Powerful! I’m so glad this is getting the kind of exposure a SuperBowl commercial affords.” Another said.

The video was uploaded by the charity NO MORE on Jan 26, 2015 almost a year ago, but is still used today. The video went viral within days, with people amazed at the bravery and quick thinking of the woman heard in the ad. Since the ad appeared on the Super Bowl back in 2015, it has increased the public awareness and engagement regarding domestic abuse around the world. Also, amid the usual Super Bowl adverts starring booze, puppies and bikini clad women, this advert surely did stand out, and so it should.
